Hi JDG Families,
I hope you have all had a wonderful summer and are ready to tackle 2017. It was great meeting most of you this morning. Please feel free to pop in when you can, you are always welcome. You can also make appointments before school hours to see me if you need.
We have a couple of exciting things happening this year to bring you at home into the JDG classroom. I will be using Instagram throughout the year to post interesting things happening in our class. You are encouraged to download the app and add our class bsps.missgoudie to keep up with all that is going on.
I will also be using Class Dojo as a bit of a reward program for the students. They can receive positive and negative points and can upload pictures of their work and much more for you to see at home. I have sent an instruction sheet home for you follow if you would like to participate and keep up to date.
The timetable for specialist is as follows.

Wednesday @ 12:20– 1:20pm Library
Thursday @ 12:20– 1:20pm Creative Arts

Please ensure students have an art smock, an old t-shirt is totally fine to use, a library bag if they wish to borrow books to take home and appropriate footwear for PE.
There will be more information to come regarding this but we are Swimming in week 4, so please mark that on your calendars.
Please make sure that you contact the school asap with absences. You may call the school directly or enter absences online though our school ‘Compass’ system.
Very much looking forward to working with your children and achieving great things with them this year!
To help JDG with writing their narratives, we focused on creating great characters for our stories. Getting inspired by the book “The Marvelous Fluffy Squishy Itty Bitty” we came up with some wonderful adjectives and used them to create some marvellous creatures of our own. After a very crafty session this is what we came up with.
Our beans have completely sprouted out of the soil, they even have leaves on them. It was super exciting to see this happen almost over night.
We had an up close look at our Beautiful coloured flowers. We used magnifying glasses to look at how the dye had travelled in the flower’s stem and petals, we had to record our findings by drawing what we saw.
We have had a pretty crazy week in JDG even though we were in the classroom the whole time!
The theme for education week was TECHNOLOGY, we invited our parents in to discover the app Quiver. It was extremely fun to be able to show off the interesting creatitions.
We created a Puzzle of Strengths which we decorated each piece with positive things about ourselves.
We also have some superstar puzzlers who completed their first puzzle together… Well done Amber and Samuella!
In Inquiry we did an experiment to learn how water travels up stems to help plants live. Have a look at how gorgeous our flowers look after just one day.
Also our seeds are growing really well, they have stronger roots, Check it out…
Other things we have done this week are our very first computer session where we learnt to log on to our individual profiles, thanks heaps to Mr D’Arma for helping us. We also were very lucky to have Linda come in and teach us some awesome Italian. We learnt numbers, a song, colours and played some games using the Italian words we had learnt.
After a very jam packed week at school we are all looking forward to a nice break over the weekend to rest up before another crazy busy week of learning!
JDG looked at the book Jack and the Beanstalk this week. We did lots of different reading activities based on the book as well as look at how seeds grow, just like the magical beans that Jack had.
Here are some JDG students in the process of planting our magic beans…
Stay tuned for updates on our growing magical beans!
This week started with our school Athletics Day. We had lots of fun even though it was a bit chilly down at the track. We did hurdles, sack race, high jump, frisbee, vortex and relays. Everyone participated and tried their best. Fraser (Green) was the overall winner and our very own Tegan Waters was Grade 2 Girls Champion! Well done Tegan we are very proud of you! Stay tuned for some action shots from Athletics Day!
On Tuesday we got a new girl in our class. Her name is Chloe and she has come all the way from Queensland. Welcome Chloe, we hope you enjoy being in our class and at Bourchier Street.
We had the Colour Run today with the rest of the school to celebrate “World Colouring Day”. After assembly the students from BSPS set out for a run around the track but this time there would be teachers surround the track armed with bottles of special coloured powder to throw all over us! It was a super fun afternoon, check out how colourful we ended up!
Week 3 was a short but very exciting week in JDG!
We came to school refreshed from our 3 day weekend and got ready for Fun Run Day on Wednesday. Everyone did a fantastic job and tried their very best to get around the Victoria Park Lake as quick as possible. A big CONGRATULATIONS to our very own Lucy Potter for coming in first place our of all the Grade 2 girls! We are very proud of you Lucy!
Today we had the wonderful Alice and Kristy from GV Water come to visit our school. They talked about why we should choose to drink tap water and what happens to the stuff we flush down our toilets and put down our drains.
Our maths session today was very hands on with all things measurement. We got a streamer the length of our bodies and then had to work out how tall we where using a range of different informal units. Check out the video to see how we went.
Reading has been a big focus as well this week with the class keeping a graph and their independent reading time. We hope to one day get to a full 20 minutes of independent reading. It’s going to take some time but we are working on our reading stamina. We had a treat from Shady this week, he read us his favourite book, “The Book with no Pictures” please take the time to enjoy his version of the story.
The Book with no Pictures- Read by Shady
We have had another busy week in JDG!
Today we learnt about the significance of ANZAC Day and created some beautiful poppies.
Earlier on this week we all smiled really nicely and looked our best for our school photos… Can’t wait to see them all!
Miss Goudie was away on Thursday, but we had a fabulous teacher by the name of Mrs Healey come into our classroom for the whole day, we had lots of fun with her even though she got mixed up and took us to Art a little early!
We have finished our unit on Persuasive Writing with our final piece on why our school is the best… there were some very good points made and some very passionate writing happening.
We have a lovely long weekend ahead of us with NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY!
Last week in JDG we have been using the book “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus”.
We have looked at how the pigeon tried really hard to persuade us to let him drive the bus. This was then our inspiration behind our persuasive writing piece this week.
We got crafty and created some adorable pigeons of our own… The paint was SO cold on our hands!
The book also used a lot of interesting punctuation, which inspired us to learn and do some Kung Fu Punctuation, our Punctuation Sensei taught us young grasshoppers the ways of the ancient art of Kung Fu Punctuation. Stay tuned for some videos of us mastering it!
